Robo Race


Event Description:

Robo-race is a competition between wireless-controlled robots racing on a track containing obstacles. The obstacles include a maze, suspension bridge, aggregate, sand, uphill, downhill trackways etc. The top two robots that complete the race track with a leading time record will be qualified for the final race. In the final race, the robots that complete the track within the least time record will be declared the winner. The robot must be compact, lightweight, robust, and rigid for better performance.

Robot Specifications:

For the qualification through the competitive rounds of the race, the participants’ robot must fulfill the following criteria.

  • The robot must be well protected and wires are recommended to be hidden inside the chassis.
  • No weapons are allowed to be attached to the robot.
  • Lego or any ready-made toy car are not permitted.


AN IMPORTANT NOTE:

These rules may change at any time, even without explicit notification to teams. However, the document uploaded in the official website of Aaviskar 2023 is to be followed as the latest problem statement for all the rules and design specifications.


Specification for the arena

  • The venue and the arena will be selected and designed by the organizers and event managing teams. The participants should expect following features regarding the race track for quality preparation.
  • The track will have sand, pebbles, speed-breakers, inclination, suspension bridge, and rotating bar obstacles.
  • The track width ranges from 40 – 60 cm.
  • The track will contain multiple pathways with different obstacles respectively.
  • The track will contain multiple checkpoints.
  • There will be change of track obstacles based on change of rounds.


Rules for the event day

The rules have been designed for equal participation and fair gameplay for the participants. The teams must abide by the rules during the event and the announcement sessions.

  • A team can have a maximum of 3 members.
  • The robot must pass the technical inspections before the match starts.
  • The race is based on time records, i.e. the time will not be paused at any given instance of the race once it starts until the finish line.
  • In the given scenario, if the robot goes out of track, it can be respawned to the nearest crossed checkpoint.
  • The time will not be paused during the checkpoint respawn.
  • Decisions of the judges and event organizers shall be treated as final decisions and the participants must abide by it.
  • The organizers can change the rules of the game depending on the situation.
  • A team, individual or robot that violates the code of conduct can be disqualified from the tournament.


Points criteria for the active rounds

The following criteria will be followed for allocating the round winners and the final position holders.

  • The operator will start to drive the robot from the starting station and pass through the provided obstacles.
  • The selected teams will again compete in the same track with slight modification in obstacles.
  • The teams will be given 3 trials to complete an obstacle, if not, the obstacle will be skipped with a penalty of 3 seconds.
  • Upon crossing any given check point, the team will get a 2 seconds deduction to their total time.
